What is Efficiency Manitoba?

Efficiency Manitoba is a Crown corporation devoted to achieving annual energy efficiency initiatives by offering cost effective programs and rebates to Manitobans.

Efficiency Manitoba's goal is to reduce the overall provincial consumption of electricity by 1.5% and natural gas by 0.5% annually. In the process, Efficiency Manitoba strives to enable decreases in greenhouse gases, while also saving you money!

Getting Started with the Home Insulation Rebate

Your first step in getting started will be determining if your home and project are eligible for the rebate program.

If the following applies to you and your home, then you qualify to take advantage of the Efficiency Manitoba Home Insulation Rebate Program:

  • You are the homeowner with an active Manitoba Hydro account in your name.
  • The home is your primary residence, or the primary residence of your tenant and the home is occupied year-round.
  • The home was built before 1999.
  • You have not started the insulation work and you have not purchased any materials, removed drywall, stucco, or old insulation.
  • Your home has not previously received a rebate for the area that you are applying for.
  • Your contractor or retailer is registered with Efficiency Manitoba.

The Application Process

Once you have confirmed your eligibility, it is time to get started with the application process. Visit your nearest McMunn & Yates and we will help you fill out an application and submit it to Efficiency Manitoba for approval.

Don't forget, you can't purchase any materials or start to work on your home without receiving a rebate approval from Efficiency Manitoba.

Once your application has been approved, visit us again at McMunn & Yates to purchase the necessary materials and begin the installation process. Your materials must be purchased from the contractor or retailer that you were approved with, and you have 12 months to do so from the date your application was approved.

After completing the install, we will help you submit the final documents necessary for Efficiency Manitoba. Next, Efficiency Manitoba will finalize your rebate amount and send you a cheque. A post-verification inspection may be required to finalize your rebate amount.

Insulation Requirements

In-order to qualify for a rebate, your project must be at least 100 square feet per area and meet the original and final R-value outlined by Efficiency Manitoba.

Wondering if your project will meet the R-value requirements, click here

What is an R-Value?

The R-value is a measure of thermal resistance. It's value indicates how well an insulating material can resist the transfer of heat. The higher the R-value of the insulation, the greater its thermal resistance and the greater its effectiveness at reducing heat flow and maintaing a stable temperature.

In general, the higher the R-value, the better the insulating material. However, the ideal R-value for a specific application will depend on various factors such as the type of building and insulation placement.

Energy Efficiency Made Easy: How to Qualify for the Window and Door Rebate

Efficiency Manitoba’s Window and Door Rebate Program is designed to help make energy efficient upgrades more accessible and affordable for homeowners in Manitoba. Here is everything you need to know about the program and how you can work with McMunn & Yates to take advantage of this rebate.

What is the Window and Door Rebate?

Efficiency Manitoba provides rebates on select ENERGY STAR Certified Windows and Doors for your home. Through this program, homeowners can receive a $100 rebate on each eligible window and door installed in your home, up to a total of $2000.

Not only does this rebate program save you money upfront, but it will also increase the energy efficiency of your home, saving you money in the long run.

Getting Started with the Window and Door Rebate

Your first step in getting started will be determining if your home and project are eligible for the rebate program.

If the following applies to you and your home, then you qualify to take advantage of the Efficiency Manitoba Window and Door Rebate Program:

  • Your windows and doors must be ENERGY STAR certified and have at least triple pane glass (entry doors with no glass must be ENERGY STAR certified).
  • Your application and invoice is received within 90 days of the final invoice date.
  • Your products are being installed in your or your tenant’s primary residence (commercial and seasonal properties aren’t eligible).
  • Windows and doors must replace existing windows and doors between an unheated space (e.g., outdoors) and a heated space.
  • Rebates are based on the number of qualifying openings in which windows or doors were replaced. Each opening is counted as one window and/or door. For example, a bay window, which may be made up of several window sections, is counted as one qualifying opening.
  • A total of 20 windows and/or doors can be rebated at one property over the lifetime of the Window and Door Rebate.

Projects that are not Eligible for Efficiency Manitoba's Window and Door Rebate:

  • Unoccupied homes
  • Apartments, vacation rentals, and outbuildings – apartment buildings may be eligible for window and door rebates through Efficiency Manitoba’s Building Envelope Program
  • Seasonal homes, cottages, and cottage conversions

Why Upgrade your Windows and Doors?

Energy-efficient windows and doors can make a significant difference in the comfort and energy efficiency of your home. By reducing the amount of heat lost or gained through windows and doors, homeowners can save money on their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.

One of the most significant benefits of energy-efficient windows and doors is their ability to improve the insulation of your home. High-quality windows and doors are designed to minimize heat loss and heat gain, ensuring that your home stays warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. This not only makes your home more comfortable but can also reduce your heating and cooling costs.

Another benefit of energy-efficient windows and doors is their ability to reduce noise pollution. Triple-pane windows and doors can significantly reduce the amount of noise that enters your home from outside, making your home a more peaceful and quiet environment.
